Background, Mission and ProgramsGNP+NA is the North American affiliate of the Global Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS (GNP+). The mission of GNP+NA is to improve the quality of life of people living with HIV/AIDS by creating and sustaining an active North American network of PLWHA’s working regionally to address the global pandemic. GNP+NA endorses the vision of GNP+ to improve the quality of life of people living with HIV/AIDS by lobbying, linking and sharing. GNP+NA operates a unique bilateral organization providing North American PLWHA’s with opportunities to network, organize, and become part of a global movement of PLWHA’s. GNP+ is a global network for and by people with HIV/AIDS. The central secretariat of the network is based in Amsterdam, Netherlands and consists of a board of twelve members representing the various international regions: North America, Latin America, Caribbean, Asia/Pacific, Africa, and Europe. The overall aim of GNP+ is achieved by helping to build the capacity of people with HIV/AIDS on the global, regional and national level. The goal of GNP+ is to create, organize and support a base for the global network by: Lobbying for inclusion of people living with HIV/AIDS and their interests GNP+NA is working to implement a series of activities to impact public policy-making by informing and mobilizing the HIV+ community around three key issues:
GNP+NA is governed by a diverse Board of Directors comprised equally
of representatives of the United States and Canada. One director from
each country represents GNP+NA on the GNP+Global Board. Board of Directors

GNP+NA is the North American affiliate of the Global Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS (GNP+). The mission of GNP+NA is to improve the quality of life of people living with HIV/AIDS, through creating and sustaining an active North American network of PLWHAs working regionally to address the global pandemic. GNP+NA endorses the vision of GNP+ to improve the quality of life of people living with HIV/AIDS by Lobbying for inclusion of people living with HIV/AIDS in the decision making processes; Linking people living with HIV/AIDS through local, regional and global meetings and conferences; Sharing knowledge and building capacity locally, regionally and globally GNP+NA consists of members and supporters in Canada and the United States of America. This is a unique bilateral organization providing North American PLWHAs with opportunities to network and organize across national borders and to become part of a global movement of PLWHAs. Membership in GNP+North America is open to all people living with HIV/AIDS and residing in the North American region (Canada and the United States), and there is no membership fee. GNP+NA strives to achieve and uphold principles of parity, inclusion and representation (P.I.R.), in all of its undertakings. “We will endeavor to reflect the diversity of all communities affected by HIV/AIDS. This includes individuals of any age, race/ethnicity, culture, gender, sexual orientation, economic level, education, and/or geographic area. We will also endeavor to support participation of such diverse groups.” Members will be kept informed of GNP+NA activities through quarterly newsletters, fact sheets, public policy position papers and action alerts; the website www.gnpna.org and through our links to organizations with whom we are collaborating. How To JoinMembership in GNP+North America is open to all people living with HIV/AIDS and residing in the North American region (Canada and the United States). There is no membership fee. The GNP+NA membership and mailing list is strictly confidential. The list is maintained by the GNP+NA Secretariat and is never shared with other organizations or external parties. |
